Peace in Your Hands

Standard

Friends are so important. We were made for community and family. This should be the main function of the body of Christ, community.  If you do not have community you need to find it!

I was with a precious group of friends yesterday. We sat outside in the beautiful weather, sipping tea and snacking on delicious treats. We were all very interested to hear from Edith who is from Nigeria and the mother-in-law of one of my friends. One of the girls asked, “If you had a few moments to give advice to young women on marriage and family what would you tell them?”  Without hesitation Edith said, “The peace of your house, rests in your hands.” That resounded in my spirit as she spoke those words. She went on to share more and encouraged us “to be prayerful and rely on the Spirit to empower us to handle the weight of our responsibilities as a wife and mother.”

This last week, I started my new job at the church, my masters class is in full swing, I have a two-year old who is going through the “fit” stage, an eight month old who is crawling and falling and we relocated. The stress level at my house has been very high. I was so glad to be reminded yesterday that I can be an agent of PEACE for my house.  God the Spirit  can so fill me and work through me to bring his presence into my home. The past six months or so the Lord has been strongly impressing on my heart over and over, “Don’t forget the Holy Spirit.” The scripture so many of us like to whip out and use for many situations in life, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength,” (Phil 4:13) has become so common and cliché to us. Yet the truth in this scripture is “through Christ.”  The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ that dwells in us, that empowers us to live. Through this Spirit your house can be filled with Peace.
